Adventures in Peru, Lima

When I first arrived Peru, Lima, I met up with Sis Soh Cheng at the airport. And straight away I joined her to the bible study group she had at the outskirt of the Lima. It was quite an expreience to travel the public bus with Soh Cheng, she is always on the lookout and very careful with her belongings. I had a fun time fellowshipping with her members though I speak very "poco" little spanish. The people in Peru like most latin American, time to them was not a factor, so many of the member starts to come only after 1 hr of the stated time. Thus, the bible study did not end until 12 midnight. Sis Soh Cheng had been a great help to me, following couples of days in Lima, she help in getting my Bolivian tourist visa and yellow fever injection, and bringing me to taste the various delicacy of local Peruvian food, which I totally enjoyed.

For the 1st time in my life, I tried paragliding, and I must say that I had a great and fun time, though it is just a brief 15 mins up in the air, over looking the amazing shoreline and the capital of Peru, Lima. Peru is a beautiful country filled with it's natural resorviour of beauty and splendour. The people are very warmth, courtoues and friendly, always ready to attend to your needs.

Arriving Peru

I arrived Peru airport on 12-12-05, and was greeted by Sis Soh Cheng. It had been quite a number of years since I had last met her, she seems to have lost weight, as she had been working very hard in her ministry in Peru. Later in the eveing I went with her to visit her small group (after an hour bus ride from her place) It was good from me to experience taking the public transport and to visit the local house. The Peruians are like the Guatemalan, very friendly and warmth. They made me feel so at home, eventhough I only speak little spainish.
Next day, we went to the Bolivia Embassy to apply for my visa, and praise God, the procedure was very easy and fast. Not what I was expecting it. So within the same day in the afternoon I got my visa, Hurray. Soh Cheng was very nice, she bought me to try various varieties of Peru crusine.
Then I met up with the Gap travellers on 16-12-05 for the first meeting. Afterwhich we went for our frist dinner together. Alright, here we go fro our 45days South America travel. Lookout for more pictures.

Youth Life Workshop

It had been a privillage given to me to serve the people of Guatemala. Recently, we conducted a 3 days Youth Life Workshop on the 8th, 9th, and 10th Dec 2005. Total including the leaders and the participants we had trained about 50 people. Many of them had shown their sincere appreciation and thanksgiving for having gained so much from the course. And here I am really grateful that I can contribute and make a difference in the life of the people here. I had Maggie, a local Guatemalan to be my interpreter and she is really good, and we together with JoAnn, we had created the experience that we want the youth and leaders to have. It was a workshop with a vision to see the youth in Guatemala be set free from fear, to have their self esteem build up and to have and believe in their dreams. Many lives had been set free and many are certain of their dreams and what they really want in life.
This experience that I had during my travels was just so awesome and wonderful. I will truly not forget and pray that the work that had began in these life will continues to grow and expand in Guatemala.

Feeding the poor Children in Guatemala

Pastor Alvina and his wife in minstry for the feeding program
Hey!
Please feed me! I´m hungry.
Passing out the Tortillia to the children
Yes, we need your support to see the ministry continues

There are many poor people in Guatemala, it is a nation with so much proverty and need so much help and support. I went to this village in Santa Fe with Pastor Alivina and his wife, Carmen, who had been in this ministry for the poor children in Guatemala for many years. they really hav ea heart of gold and love for the poor people here. It was heartbreaking to see the living conditions and the plights of these children, going without food for days, and teh excitment in them seeing us come with food fro them. This ministry will only continues if Pastor Alvina is able to get continual support, sometime they just have to stop the feeding till they are able to get sufficient funds. So if any of you wish to be a part of this great works, in making a difference to the people of Guatemala. Please let me know as I would like to see this works continue to grow and expand too.

In Belize, Caye Caulker

Shark and Sting Ray alley, they are so very friendly.
Tina´s backpacker hostel I stayed for 3 nights, great place, facing the sea
For the first time I had Sting Ray swept pass me and me touching and play with them
Beautiful sunrise taken from my upperdeck room.

Coming to Caye Caulker, north Belice, was a good choice, after leaving the Las Serenas sailing trip in South Belice. I took a local chicken bus (paid Q70 S$18) up to the border of Belice in Melchor (7 - 8hrs, should be only 3-4hrs) yet I do not have a proper seat, and many people standing. I got to squeeze myself near to front where the driver is. It was an experience for me. But thank God, I met a German lady and a Swedish man, and we traveled together, so as to help look after each other. When I reached Melchor, it was already dark and I got my way to Claudial house for the night before I go to Belice city to catch a water taxi to Caye Caulker.
This is the fun thing about traveling and meeting different travellers along the way. 2 weeks before, I wouldn´t had known this way to go to Caye Caulker or even to know this island exist until i had met 2 travellers from Holland who had went there and told me about the place. I did my famouse Blue Hole dive and it was awesome, we went as deep as 42m and got to see many big fishes and the lime stone in the water (too bad I did not have my underwater camera with me :( we also went to 2 other sites to do the diving and it was wonderful to see the coral reefs and the passage through each reefs, just so awesome. We also went to the Half Moon Caye to see the Boobies and Friget bird. It was so wonderful to see so many birds up perching on the tree, when we walked you to the observation deck, Amazing to see the male Friget blowing his red neck like a big balloon to attracts the female companions. I also went to do some nearby snorkeling and it was so amazing to have a close encounter with so many Sting Rays and Nurse sharks, they seemed so tamed and used to human being, as they cam swiming towards us and in betweens our leg.
One thing I like about Caye Caulker is the way of life on the island, it is so peaceful, quite and lazy, the people are so warm and friendly, one will feel safe in the island walking around in the night, but not in the Belice city itself. I could have lazed and stayed in the island for a longer time if not for my commitment to the 3 days youth workshop I will be conducting to the Guatemalan youths. Will shared of the workshop in my next blog.
Many of the Belize people speak English and majority of them are the blacks. When I first arrived in the City by bus, I was pestered by the taxi driver to that me to the water taxi and by the men along the pathway, throwing flying kisses towards me. The whole climate was so oppressive and indeed I do not feel safe. Infact the population of Belize is only in the 500000 ranges, not more than a million. Most of the people work in handicraft, agricultural and tourism to get income for their living.

Sailing in the South Belize

Having our japanese seating style seafood dinner
International friends met on the boat
Together with John the owner and captain of the boat, he been sailing all his life.
Les Serenas, we stayed there fro 6 nights and 7 days
Missing our yummy seafood dinner
I was away for 7days in the southern partof Belize to do sailing. This was an awesome experience for me, as we were each only given 1 litter of water everyday to wash away the salt water. And that we get to experience pitch darkness with many stars up in the sky as early as 6.30pm. And it was awesome to see the sunrise, bath with beautiful sun setting infront of you, sleep early 8.30pm and wake up early at 5.30pm to see the sunrise. The scernery we witnessed was just amazing. I get to see our co-captian Raul and go fishing and catch lobster into the sea with his spear and I really had fun watching him in action so effortlessly. And he sure swam like a fish. I must also share with you the one time my almost drown experience. It was my first time doing a 3rd lung dive (using an external oxygen tank) to be shared by 3 peoples. As we were diving at around 12m for about 12 mins. suddenly the air went off and there was no oxygen, we had to ascend up earlier with an external oxygen tank. But when we ascended on the surface the current was so strong and we kept sinking in (cos we had the weight belt on). I had to abandon the weight belt into the 25 m deep ocean, to swim to the nearby ocean higher land. And it was a sure frightful experience for me, as I get to drink lots of salt water. But yet on hind side it was still fun to have experience that.
