Tikal is one of the toursit attraction in Guatemala, and I was glad that I got a local travel companion to go and visit with me. His name is Elires, I hope I spelled his name rightly. He is the son of JoAnn´s friend Cludial, a very good and intelligent boy indeed. They live in Mancos, one of the local village house, and so JoAnn and myself actually stayed with them for about a week, in the village. It was quite a refreshing expreience for me. Having to take bath by 10am, otherwise there will not be any supply of water. To cook with limited untensil, having to spray insect repellent all over me. Nothing much to do expect to read and plan for the Youth Life Workshop I will be having for about 100 young people in Guatemala. Am looking forward and excited about this new venture.
Coming back to Tikal, this is a place that has a history of being around since 300 AD, during it´s peak occupancy it had about 1000 civilisation. Indeed, when we were there, I was amazed by the structure of the architect and the location of each site or temple, which has it´s significent position. We spent a good day of walking and exploring the ruins and I must say Elires is a good companion to be around with.
